Industries That Are Most Suitable for Remote and Hybrid Work

Over the past couple of years, professionals in various industries have learned to adapt to remote or hybrid work, with some thriving in such work setups. With the benefits of remote or hybrid work, it no longer comes as a surprise that more professionals prefer these types of work arrangements.

In fact, according to recent CareerBuilder research, jobs allowing individuals to work from home full or part time have received seven times as many applications as in-person jobs. The McKinsey Global Institute also revealed that over 20% of the workforce could successfully work from home for three to five days a week. If remote work becomes more common, this will significantly influence metropolitan economies, transportation and consumer spending, among other things.

In today’s post, a trusted office space provider lists the top industries that do well in remote or hybrid work.

Which Industries Could Successfully Adopt Remote or Hybrid Work?

Based on about 57,000 job posting histories by various firms on FlexJobs during 2021, the site found that these industries topped the list of those hiring for hybrid positions:

  • Accounting and finance
  • Computer and information technology
  • Education and training
  • Marketing
  • Medical and health
  • Project management
  • Sales

Last year, these industries had the most hybrid job vacancies on FlexJobs, and in 2022, they are predicted to have even more hybrid job openings.

Other Insights

Experts have noted that the marketing and information technology industries had already encouraged hybrid office space setups even before the pandemic. Meanwhile, other industries such as medicine and education have had high demand throughout the pandemic, but they are struggling to attract talent, forcing employers to offer more flexible job options. This has prompted researchers to study how business leaders will reimagine the roles of workspaces and adapt to hybrid work models.
